Relationship difficulties are a fact of life. Because we are all unique and no two individuals or relationships are the same - we can’t expect to be in perfect harmony with our partner or loved ones all of the time. In healthy relationships, conflict or differences are usually short term and are resolved relatively easily. In troubled relationships, conflict can be common, recurring and distressing for all parties.
Communication is often the main culprit. Despite how compatible we may look on paper, the reality is that we all come from different family dynamics, with different ways of communicating our needs. Some of us may communicate our needs with anger or hostility, whereas others may withdraw and shut down. When arguments frequently reoccur or continue without resolution it’s time to get help. For those who have decided to separate it can be helpful to engage a therapist to assist with mediating and finding closure. For others, helping an ailing relationship get back on track is the goal. Our experienced relationship therapists at Relieve Psychology draw upon a range of frameworks including Gottman, Imago and Schema Therapy. They can work with you to develop strategies to help resolve conflict and restore peace and harmony to your relationship. Let us help you reignite the spark and get back to where you started the journey together. |

Relationship Counselling
Relationship counselling usually refers to interventions that involve a couple attending multiple sessions with one counsellor, generally together but individual sessions for one or both partners may also be included.
Most couples who attend relationship counselling differ from those who attend relationship education and tend to be experiencing high levels of distress within their relationship.
Couples come to counselling with the intention of decreasing distress and increasing the health of their relationship.
Relationship Counselling approaches “typically aim to improve communication skills and commitment, and ameliorate conflict, relationship distress and dissatisfaction in couples who recognise that they are experiencing relationship difficulties”.
